When it comes to planning for your future deck, one of the most important factors to consider, is whether to go with a composite material, like Trex- or stick to a natural wood, like cedar. We, at Custom Decks, have built TONS of gorgeous, custom decks out of both wood, and composite material. Although composite and natural wood differ in many aspects, they undoubtedly ALWAYS turn out spectacularly!
Clients who choose natural wood, mainly do so because of cheaper cost, and sometimes because they’d like to achieve a more natural look with their deck. Although we always honor our customer’s desires, your design consultant is always very likely to recommend using composite material, like Trex®, instead. The key benefits of using composite materials are: it requires very little maintenance, it is water/fire proof, comes with a 25-year product warranty, does not swell, splinter, or flake, is coated with an incredibly durable shell which withstands all elements and pressure, looks exactly like natural wood, comes in a large range of colors, and is completely ecologically sourced and sustainable!
For our clients who do prefer a more natural or rustic feel to their deck, we do recommend adding a roof over your deck, to not only provide relaxing shade, but to give your natural wood deck a bit of coverage from the elements.
If you are still unsure on which material is best to use, please give us a call, and our design consultant will be more than happy to answer your questions and properly advise you on which products will achieve YOUR custom designed deck!
